In 2002, after much “complaining” about the extremely low morale of the Northlake Police Department and after hearing from the administration that it was only a “few veteran officers” that were starting trouble, we(the FOP Lodge #18) decided to have an employee survey taken.
The survey was obtained from a major corporation and altered a bit to apply to a police agency.
I highly recommend this survey to any police agency–if the administration will even consider doing a survey! We know how they try to keep negative morale under wraps…
After the results were tabulated we set up a meeting with Chief Dennis Koletsos to give him the results and discuss them. Well, after giving him the results he read them quickly then began to read the comments(make sure you check them out as they are copied exactly as the respondents wrote them and are a trip). After reading the third or fourth comments out loud– and turning very red in the face– he abruptly got up and walked out of the meeting. Real professional huh?
The real funny thing about this is that about an hour later ABC News was at the station doing their story on the removal of the American Flag from the uniforms(The video is at top of page). A real fine day for Northlake Chief Koletsos!
All City alderpersons were given the results of the survey as well as the mayor. The City of Northlake, Mayor Jeff Sherwin and Chief Koletsos, did absolutely nothing about this survey and nothing more was said from them regarding it.
Since this survey was taken, the turnover of employees at the Northlake Police Department in Illinois has reportedly remained as high or higher than at the time this survey was taken. Guess it wasn’t just a small group of veterans starting trouble huh? Wonder what the results of this survey would be if it was given now?
One more note, The scoring of the survey is: the lower the number score of each question the better(positive) and the higher the number score the worse(negative) result given by respondents. Directions are on all pages of the survey.

Chicago Police off duty weapon used by a woman to commit suicide.
A source said the Officer had his pants down to his ankles when it happened.
Now what would have happened to this Officer if he was in Northlake?
The longer on the job the less patience you will have.
The more time the more incompetance you notice from the brass.
I for one learned about fishing from chuck after his 30 yrs on the force.
