Article That Describes Actions of the Northlake Police Chief

This article is an awesome one that decribes how law enforcement management gets at Police Officers, most of whom are union members. From personal experience my opinion is that The City Of Northlake, Illinois’ Police Chief Dennis Koletsos uses this technique extensively. After never having any complaints against me in 10 years on the job it was funny how after becoming our Union President I was suddenly being suspended and investigated for “anonyomous” complaints, etc….. Those who have worked there know what I am talking about. Those except for the relatively few suck ups that would sell their soul if it meant getting …Read more […..]

My Former Fellow Officer & Friend's Story

This is a friend of mines’ true story. It does not surprise me in the least as he also worked in Northlake which is located in Illinois–a very liberal state indeed. Anyway, this surprised me very much and I am wondering if it surprises anyone else? Whatever the case may be–I remember this guy saying this phrase often ;)– it is definitely something that all Police Officers can learn from. His blog site is: http://dukesblotter.blogspot.comA Lesson Learned – Learn From ItI am making this post not as a complaint but as a way for others to learn. This is a very important issue to everyone that wears a badge. As everyone pretty …Read more […..]

And The Survey Says……

In 2002, after much “complaining” about the extremely low morale of the Northlake Police Department and after hearing from the administration that it was only a “few veteran officers” that were starting trouble, we(the FOP Lodge #18) decided to have an employee survey taken. The survey was obtained from a major corporation and altered a bit to apply to a police agency. I highly recommend this survey to any police agency–if the administration will even consider doing a survey! We know how they try to keep negative morale under wraps… After the results were tabulated we set up a meeting with Chief Dennis Koletsos …Read more […..]

A True Lesson Learned During My Probation

This is about my first real lesson learned while I was on probation at Northlake Police Department. Rookies take heed…Now, when an officer passes FTO and is set on their own it is very exciting and “freeing.” You are free to pursue criminals and respond to calls in your own style. Even though you may be on your own, much still rides on the other officers you work as well as supervisors. When I was a rookie, my FTO and a couple other fine and trustworthy officers advised me to find an officer or two that I trusted and only confide in them matters that could jeopardize my job/career. I should not trust everyone–boy is this …Read more […..]

Sound Familiar?

The Department spokeswoman obviously is trying to put a spin on things. A friend of mine who is a copper at Chicago PD has cnfirmed that morale is extremely low and they are not going to go out of their way to make arrests for fear that they will be overly scrutinized and eventually punished. Seems certain chiefs like to make a reputation for themselves. This happens everyday and I am sure some people actually buy into department brass’ excuses. As many officers used to state at Northlake PD, it is all “smoke and mirrors.” CHICAGO — Serious crime is up but arrests are down in Chicago, and some police officers say they …Read more […..]

True FTO Story

An FTO story…When you are an FTO you come across some real characters when training rookie police officers. Many times you may find yourself asking, “How did this person get hired?” Whether it is because the person is a friend of a politician or is a suck up to the police chief it is a sad state of affairs when someone who clearly should be in another line of work gets hired as a police officer. With that in mind, I am reminded of someone who rode along with me. This guy, lets call him Wilbur to conceal his identity, thought that he was the sh*t. I mean he thought that all the ladies (and guys) loved him and that rules didn’t …Read more […..]

Caffarelli & Siegel Ltd. Contributes to the Formation of New Law

Caffarelli & Siegel Breaks New Ground: Court Rules on “First Impression” FMLA Issue On June 27, 2008, Judge Sidney Schenkier of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled that public employees may be sued in their individual capacities under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”). This issue had never been decided in this jurisdiction, and Caffarelli & Siegel is pleased to have contributed to the formation of new law.Plaintiff Daniel Rasic filed suit against his former employer, the City of Northlake, claiming interference with his rights under the …Read more […..]
