Should Doctors En Route To Surgery Receive Speeding Tickets?

Special Treatment Often Doesn’t ApplyThere are a million and one excuses that you can come up with to try to avoid a speeding ticket. You can say you are late to pick up your child at school or that you are sick to your stomach and need to find a bathroom fast.Or that you had a run-in with a beefy, mean-looking trucker at a rest stop and you are trying put as many miles between him and you as you can. And if that means putting the pedal to the metal for 10 straight minutes on the freeway, so be it.But few of your excuses will match the impact that a doctor can bring to bear: “I am a physician and I’m on the way …Read more […..]

Technology Wars: Cops vs. Speeders

The battle is raging between police officers and speeders as they continually try to one-up the other with new technology (Corbis). People speed for plenty of reasons. Some claim they’re in a hurry. Some aren’t paying attention. Some do it for sport. Likewise, police have multiple motivations for ticketing speeders. Some officers claim driving anything over the speed limit is “unsafe.” Some departments do it to fill municipal coffers hit hard by falling tax revenues. And yes, some do it for sport. Regardless of why drivers speed and cops ticket, each side is using technology to increase their chances …Read more […..]

The City of Northlake and Police Chief Koletsos Lose Lawsuit

It seems the(in my opinion) infamously arrogant and cocky Dennis Koletsos and his equally ignorant employer have lost a lawsuit. This was a long time coming and I am sure they are feeling very good now. LOL This guy has been, in my opinion, running rampant in the Northlake Police Department for years now. It was only a matter of time that something like this would happen. If he testified at trial I would have loved to have seen that! He gets flustered easily and turns red when he gets pressured.Quite comical. I wonder what the residents of Northlake think now that they will have to pay the burden of this lawsuit. …Read more […..]

MILWAUKEE (April 27) — A Wisconsin lawmaker has been jailed for his third DWI conviction — in a state with the nation’s highest rate of drunken driving, some of the weakest laws against it and a list of lawmakers convicted of it. State Rep. Jeff Wood, an independent from rural Chippewa Falls, reported to the Columbia County jail Monday to start his 45-day sentence, days after his fellow lawmakers voted to censure him when a vote to expel him from the Assembly failed. “There’s almost a wink-wink attitude about this here,” Nina Emerson, director of the Resource Center on Impaired Driving at the University of Wisconsin Law …Read more […..]

Is That A Cop? Or A Fraud With A Fake Badge?

Is that a cop or an impostor pulling you over? (Seth Periman, AP). That navy blue sedan behind you with the flashing blue light on the dash is probably a cop — but it could be a creep using police paraphernalia to get you to pull over. How to tell the difference? And what should you do if you’re not sure? In the United States, almost all traffic enforcement work is done by police driving one of the following vehicles: * Ford Crown Victoria sedan * Chevy Impala sedan (some departments also use the smaller Malibu and the Lumina sedans as well, though the majority in service today are Impalas) * Chevy Tahoe …Read more […..]

Chicago Pols Want National Guard to Fight Crime Wave

Two Chicago lawmakers want the National Guard brought in to help fight a surge of violent crime in the city, saying there is a “war” in Chicago that warrants the same kind of deployment as the U.S. has in the streets of Iraq and Afghanistan. Democratic state Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn K. Ford are urging Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis, Mayor Richard Daley and Gov. Pat Quinn to order the Illinois National Guard to Chicago, where 113 people have been killed in shootings, stabbings, beatings and other violent crimes in 2010. The death toll at this time last year was 105. At a news conference Sunday, Fritchey and …Read more […..]
